There are few methods to produce terry fabrics:
Warp-Knitting
Weft Knitting
Weaving
Each method has its pro and cons.
Lets compare and understand the difference beween them.
Warp knitting- Weft Knitting - Weaving
Warp knitting is the process of making a fabric by forming the loops in a vertical or warp-wise direction; the yarn is prepared as warp on beams with one or more yarns for each needle. In a warp knitted structure each loop in the horizontal direction is made from different thread. At least one yarn is required for each needle. Each individual thread in the sheet (warp) forms a wale.
The fabric has a flatter, closer, less elastic knit than weft knit and is very often run resistant explaining high durability of knitted fabrics.
Weft knitting
Weft knitting is the most common type of knitting, it is the process of making a fabric by forming a series of connected loops in a horizontal or filling-wise direction; produced on both flat and circular knitting machines. Knitting across the width of the fabric makes fabric usualy has more stretch ability, might be one or double sided.
Weaving
Weaving is a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth.
Application of warp-knitted terry fabrics
1. The most popular terry fabrics application in household, for bath textile – towels and robes.
2. In hotel segment terry warp knitted towels and robes create signigicant savings due to less water and energy reqired for washing and drying.
3. In apparel warp knittied terry fabrics are used for making sportswear lining, leisure wear, coats, jackets, dresses and skirts.
4. Terry Fabrics for printing and advertising are also produced from warp knitting.
